A good light show is the second most important thing about any live performance, indoor or outdoor. When you go to a concert, hearing your favorite band play on stage is an incredible feeling.
However, if there is no other aspects which work to enhance this experience, you are pretty much left with a very conservative show. A good lighting system can exponentially boost the atmosphere of a liver performance of any kind. This is a fact, and it also explains why most large bands have a huge budget dedicated to lighting alone.
With that said, not all of us are in a multi million dollar band that can afford the latest and greatest gadgets. Most of us need to work on a very strict budget. Introduction of LED technology pretty much saved this segment of the market when it comes to lights and lighting systems.
Before LEDs reached this level of practicality, you would have to pay top dollar for something an affordable LED setup can do today. Speaking of which, we are here today to talk about American DJ Jelly Dome. It’s a very versatile dome light that has a lot to offer at a very reasonable price.
Let’s dig in !
Choosing which lighting systems you want to include in your setup is something every lighting tech needs to decide on their own. The venue you are working in is your canvas, and which brushes or colors you are going to choose is completely up to you. Some lighting systems are pretty niche oriented, but others like this American DJ Jelly Dome are more general purpose.
Domes have been in use for decades now. They have proven to be a very simple and inexpensive way of saturating the venue with interesting light effects. That is exactly what this particular dome is all about. With that said, let’s take a look at what features it brings to the table.
American DJ Jelly Dome packs 34 high quality and high output LEDs in a very compact package. The dome itself is changes colors thanks to the specially designed case. All of the LEDs in this unit are rated for at least 33,000 hours of operation.
Considering the number of light sources you get, one thing most people would worry about is overheating. However, American DJ Jelly Dome doesn’t have that problem. This dome is controllable by external controllers, allowing you to sync it with the music and create various effects when you see fit.
In terms of color range, we are talking about a seven-color system which includes red, blue, green, purple, yellow, cyan and white. There are three operational modes – sound active, master/slave and DMX 512. Strobe effect is also a standard feature, and you can do electronic dimming as well. The angle of the beam is set at 138 degree, allowing this dome to cover a lot of real estate.
In practical terms, American DJ Jelly Dome is very easy to control and use. The modes available are enough for a decent sequence, however the addition of the external controller takes things to another level. The fact that you not only have seven colors to choose from in the LEDs themselves, but also a glowing transparent case makes this unit very versatile and effective.
The motor they include in this thing is smooth and very capable. You won’t hear it, and the whole thing runs pretty cool for an LED heavy system. The best thing is that we are talking about a very light weight affordable dome light.
